Meet the Team

Shanyq Salop

Founder & Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

My name is Shanyq Salop, and I specialize in working with young adults to middle-aged women-identified persons. Do you often feel overwhelmed, anxious, or like it's hard to catch a break? Are you having trouble finding balance in your life with all of your responsibilities, or are you struggling with depression?

I can help you live a more complete life, build self-esteem and confidence, and improve overall mood and energy levels by offering integrative treatment plans that include medication management, nutraceuticals, relaxation techniques, behavioral activation, and supportive therapy.

In my practice, I use a combination of medication management and a holistic approach to providing comprehensive care to my clients. I believe in treating the whole person, not just your symptoms. I work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your unique needs and goals. If you or someone you know could benefit from this type of care, consider my practice.

My approach is based on more than just medication management but also lifestyle changes to improve mental wealth. I enjoy watching my patients work hard to improve their mental health, which improves their daily lives. I am compassionate and empathetic and advocate for patients while nurturing their mental health.

I use a combination of:

  • Medication Management -  involves carefully prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting medications to treat various mental health conditions.

  • Supportive Psychotherapy - provides emotional support and helps you cope with difficult life circumstances. It provides a safe, therapeutic, and empathetic space for you to express your thoughts and feelings. I offer feedback while helping you identify strengths, explore your values, and develop coping strategies.

  • Behavioral Activation - helps you overcome depression by identifying and changing behaviors contributing to your negative mood. I help you set goals, plan activities, and identify potential barriers or obstacles to engaging in them. Over time, consistent engagement in positive activities helps to improve mood and increase overall life satisfaction.

  • Nutraceuticals - products derived from food sources that provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition. They may include dietary supplements, fortified foods, and beverages that contain ingredients believed to promote health and prevent disease. These are not regulated as strictly as pharmaceutical drugs.

  • CBT-I - stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. It is a type of therapy that aims to treat insomnia by changing negative thoughts and behaviors related to sleep. CBT-I typically involves several components, including sleep restriction, stimulus control, sleep hygiene education, and cognitive restructuring.

  • Relaxation techniques - methods used to reduce stress and promote relaxation in the body and mind.

"I remember growing up and not having the mental health support that I needed. Coming from a West Indian background, mental health care was nonexistent and natural remedies were the preferred approach to physical illness, if any. So, I had to find my own way. I remember telling myself, "therapists need therapists." In other words, everyone needs and deserves someone to support them through life's big and small moments and struggles. I want to be that person for you.

An integrative approach involves the use of psychological and social therapies, careful medication administration, along with scientifically-proven complementary therapies and lifestyle adjustments that promote health. The desire to learn about natural remedies and supplements while still appreciating what Western medicine can do is what brought me into integrative psychiatry."

You took the most important step. Here's how we can help

Balancing a full-time job or school with raising children and managing a household can be an ongoing source of stress that makes it challenging for individuals to prioritize their own needs. In such circumstances, setting boundaries and learning to say "no" when necessary can help create a more stable and balanced life, resulting in improved performance across all areas and a reduction in anxiety and stress levels.

We work together to tailor a plan specific to your uniqueness as a human. I use a combination of medication management and holistic approaches (treating you as a whole person- mind, and body) so that you can live the life you've always wanted. I approach each person with curiosity, empathy, and passion to help you live the life you deserve.

What you can expect from our first session

Sessions are done via telehealth or in person (depending on the provider). In our first session, we will focus on getting to know each other and gathering information to create a diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your needs. I will ask you questions about your medical history, current symptoms, and any previous treatments or therapies you may have tried. We will also discuss your goals for therapy and what you hope to achieve through our work together.
